MARIELLA BISSON lives in Woodstock, NY, with ties to MV. She is showing several works on paper at the Sargent Gallery for the first time this season.
Internationally renowned for paintings of nature’s pristine beauty, Bisson focuses on the seen and unseen power and grace of geological formations. Her featured works on paper are abstractions that depict the power, weight and flow of water in both an accurate and uncanny way. Bisson’s work can make you think about water and its relationship to the planet in a deeper way. "I move between abstraction and figuration making images of primal forces -- gravity, light, and darkness, endless geological time.” Bisson’s smaller works, as well as her outdoor paintings and drawings form the basis for large-scale paintings that incorporate collage in a manner that evokes topographic maps, utilizing layers of paper to replicate the relief and angularity of rocks that have evolved under pressure to create the surface that we see - the landscape.
